When Jeanne Jugan would take her basket onto the streets of post-revolutionary France, she didn’t know what she would be given to support the elderly poor she had been welcoming into her home since 1839. It might be a bolt of cloth one day, perhaps a few potatoes the next.
“She just had this profound trust that God would provide, that if she took care of the poor, God would provide and give her the means to do it,” said Mother Loraine Maguire, who continues her legacy as the mother provincial of the Little Sisters of the Poor. “She trusted that completely.” (continue reading)
