Operating Fund

As one can imagine, the day to day cost of operating a large home and providing for the elderly poor who have outlived their resources, can be quite costly. Reimbursement from government programs covers less than half of the actual cost of care. The cost of caring for the elderly poor in a manner respectful of their dignity far exceeds the income received from the Resident's pensions, Social Security or Medicaid. The Little Sisters of the Poor rely completely on Divine Providence, having been instructed by Jeanne Jugan to avoid all forms of guaranteed income. Little Sisters rejoice in the generosity and love that flows in support of their work.

Bequests – Let your generosity become a lasting legacy of love

Our corporate name is: Little Sisters of the Poor, Baltimore, Inc. We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Every year, the Little Sisters of the Poor receives meaningful gifts from individuals who have made provisions in their will, trust or other estate plan to provide support for our ministry.

You can provide under your will or living trust agreement not only for your loved ones, but for organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor. When making or revising your will or trust you should obtain the assistance of an attorney. Your attorney will be able to tell you how you can:

• Give a specific dollar amount

Give a share or entire residue of your estate

Give personal property

Plan to make a difference in the lives of the elderly poor for many years to come by including the Little Sisters of the Poor in your will or estate plans. Please contact the Development Office at 410-744-9367 with any questions you might have. We are happy to help.

Foundation and Corporate Gifts

Grants from Foundations and Corporations are invaluable in assuring our operating fund, special projects and capital improvements.

Memorial and Honor Gifts

Gifts in memory of or in honor of a loved one may be made to the Little Sisters. The family of those for whom memorial gifts are given and the person(s) honored by an honor gift will be notified of your thoughtfulness.

Matching Gifts

Matching gifts are most welcome. Many companies have matching gift programs that will match your contribution on a 1 to 1 or even a 2 to 1 and sometimes a 3 to 1 basis. Some companies will contribute to the Little Sisters of the Poor because of your volunteer participation. Matching gift forms are available from the company where you work or from which you retired. They should be filled out, signed, and sent to the Little Sisters with your gift. We will take it from there and let you know when the Match is sent to us.
