Dear Friends,
In 2018, you joined us in various ways to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the arrival of the Little Sisters of the Poor in the USA. Many of you were at the Thanksgiving Mass held at St. Catherine of Genoa Church on October 28, celebrated by Bishop Reed. Our song in response to the first reading was “The Lord
has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.”
April 19, 2020 marked the 150th anniversary of the Little Sisters opening our first home in Boston, Massachusetts, but because of the COVID crisis, we chose to celebrate that particular milestone in a very hidden way. In the spirit of our first
Little Sisters, it was spent in loving, humble service of our elderly poor, with whom we have been blessed to share life over these many years. As you may know, we had to cancel our big celebration with Cardinal Seán O’Malley and our wonderful friends, families and benefactors. Looking back at our long history of service
in this great city of Boston, our hearts are filled with joy and gratitude to God and to all the good people who have stood by us, in season and out of season. Yes, God has done great things for us and we are filled with gratitude!
This letter is to confirm our withdrawal from the Jeanne Jugan Residence on August 1, 2020. As I write, my sorrow is transformed into profound gratitude, and I marvel at how your encouragement and promise of prayers have sustained me and my Little Sisters these past months. You are truly a part of the big family of Jeanne Jugan. No doubt about it.
Our departure is not going to be easy, but as always, the good Lord will send us the graces we need when the time comes. Please join us in praying for more vocations, which could, perhaps, enable us to return to Boston someday!
We are working diligently, along with Linda Cornell, the president of the Visiting Nurse Association, towards a smooth transition so as to assure the comfort and security of our Residents.
If you would like to continue supporting our mission toward the elderly poor, you may contact us or send your donation to our Provincial Residence.
We do have other Homes that will benefit from your generosity. Click here for locations throughout the U.S. or contact our Provincial Residence.
May God reward you a hundredfold for your goodness and kindness!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Sr. Maureen, lsp
