A message from the Little Sisters of the Poor
Our Little Sisters first came to Albany in 1871; two (2) years later, a foundation in Troy was established. In 1976, Residents from both Homes transferred to Our Lady of Hope Residence in Latham, NY until we withdrew in 2014.
For 143 years, thousands of elderly poor received compassionate and devoted care and were accompanied by the Little Sisters on their final journey home to God.
As part of a strategic plan aimed at strengthening our ministry and bolstering the quality of our religious and community life, we have recognized the need to withdraw from a certain number of Homes in the United States, while at the same time dedicating our resources to much needed upgrades and reconstruction projects in several others.
We had to make the difficult decision to no longer have a Home in Latham. However, we still maintain an office that supports our mission. We are privileged to be able to care for the elderly poor and witness the sacredness of every life in 24 Homes throughout the U.S.
All contributions and bequests to Our Lady of Hope Residence will continue to support the mission of caring for the elderly in our Homes throughout the country. Be assured of our prayers for you especially at our monthly Mass for your intentions.
